PPRU-1 Ovod-M-SV is the name given to the series of a mobile air reconnaissance center with an integrated fire equipment. It was created specifically for conducting air reconnaissance, detecting targets and transferring data to the air defence units of tank and motorized rifle units. The main task yet is to control the actions of regimental air defence missile forces. Such a unit (battalion, division) may be integrated due to unified control system with the following types of military equipment: ZSU-23-4 Shilka, 9K35 Strela-10, 2K22 Tunguska. In addition, the PRRU-1 is able to manage a portable air defence system like 9K34 Strela-3 and 9K38 Igla.
Specialists of Ukrainian “Defence Technology” LLC assists clients with repair and, if necessary, upgrade this model. We will consider any offers of cooperation, call us, write an e-mail or send request with your proposal through the feedback form.
Main technical characteristics of PPRU-1 Ovod-M-SV (9S80):
- Detection range of air targets: up to 35 km;
- Circular view: 360 degrees;
- Speed on the road: up to 60 km/h;
- Speed afloat: up to 5 km/h;
- Driving range without refueling: 450 km;
- High armour capacity from the bullets;
- Communication equipment:
- R-123M HF/VHF radio transceiver;
- R-111 radioset;
- Crew: 3 people.
First work on the creation of a mobile air reconnaissance center began in 1971. In 1977, this vehicle was tested at the firing field. During the tests, there were identified and corrected some minor flaws, but generally the operation of the “Ovod-M-SV” center was quite effective. In 1978, this military equipment entered service and went into mass production.
The capabilities of the mobile air reconnaissance and control center PPRU-1 are wide:
- Detecting and identifying targets in the air at the low and medium altitude, by standing still or keeping on moving;
- Automatically capturing and displaying data on the situation in the air due to the plan position indicator (PPI);
- Redistributing the targets;
- Ensuring the safety of the military and civil air forces;
- Informing units about air attack and much more.
This military reconnaissance vehicle is equipped with the most necessary devices and equipment: KP-4 navigation system, gyroscopic compass, radar station with 360-degrees view and system that identifies the nationality of targets in the air (“friend or foe” FFI), a telecode radar detector, communication devices (telephone and FM), data display, other navigation, orientation and topographic location technologies. There is an autonomous power supply system and technical data controller that informs commander about serviceability and combat kits availability in the vehicle. The CM is equipped with an anti-aircraft periscope and life support system.
All necessary equipment and devices of the mobile air reconnaissance center are mounted on the tracked chassis of the light armored multipurpose tractor MT-LBu.
The crew of the “Ovod-M-SV” vehicle consists of:
- Commander of the anti-aircraft division;
- Supervisor of the control panel;
- Radio telephone operator;
Thanks to the appearance of this military reconnaissance vehicle, the efficiency of management of the anti-aircraft defence units has increased. The number of enemy targets detected in the air at an altitude of up to 100 meters has been also increased by an average rate of 75%, the effectiveness of firing air targets has been increased by 20%, as well as the number of timely calculated and compiled tasks that were transferred to the performers. This mobile reconnaissance complex made it possible to use the combat capabilities of the weapons more effectively.
